Wanted: groups and organisations to take part in Christchurch Community Celebration

A new annual Community Celebration is being organised for Christchurch, to take place at the same time of year as the ancient Trinity Fair, reviving one of the earliest recorded annual attractions held in the town. Organisers of the event, which will take place on Saturday 6 June from 10am to 4pm, are inviting groups, societies and organisations to come forward to become part of the celebrations.

“We’re looking for as many people as possible to join in, show off - or just be there to see stalls, participate in workshops, discussions and activities. This year we will be raising funds for something very important to the community: the New Druitt Community Centre. All are invited.”

The event will take place in Christchurch town centre in Druitt Gardens and in Saxon Square. The organisers are already planning: dance performances including a Chinese Dragon dance from members of the Christchurch Chinese community; a medieval walk organised by Christchurch Folk group; guided history walks by local experts from the History Society; talks on the town’s ghosts and smuggling; viewings of from a recent documentary made about Christchurch; a massage workshop given by a professional massage therapist; a performance from a popular local choir; acoustic musical performances and stalls giving information about a range of interests, such as local history. These are just a handful of the groups joining in so far. There will be a buzz of activity and diverse interests.
